All Islands Are Connected
All Islands Are Connected
I am an American artist of Taiwanese heritage working in sustained collaboration with culture bearers, researchers, and museum collections to resist historical amnesia, co-envision thriving futures and cultivate solidarity.
My practice begins in the archives and the field: years of research into the impacts of the spice trade, the interrelated activities of the Dutch East and West India Companies, transpacific migration routes, and histories of indentured laborers, have informed multidisciplinary works that surface counter-narratives to empire.
I approach exhibition-making as an experiential medium, integrating painting, sculpture, installation, olfaction, emerging technologies, and performance to reshape how history is felt, embodied, and remembered. Through satire, sensory experience, and world-building, I open space to reckon with fragmented public histories that guide more livable futures grounded in reciprocity and interdependence.
Short bio: Beatrice Glow is a New York-based artist whose installations, sculptures, performances, and use of emerging technologies transform lesser-known histories of extractive trade and diaspora into material and sensorial experiences that reclaim visions of thriving futures. Drawing on archives, field research, and sustained collaboration with culture bearers across Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, she constructs counter-narratives to the aesthetics of empire. She has presented solo exhibitions at The New-York Historical, the Baltimore Museum of Art, Taipei Contemporary Art Center, and Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Chile, and group exhibitions at the Western Australia Shipwrecks Museum, Lyndhurst Mansion, Park Avenue Armory, Honolulu Biennial, and Galeri Nasional Indonesia, among others. Her work has been supported by Stanford Arts Creative Futures Fellowship, Creative Capital, the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship, Yale-NUS College, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, National Endowment for the Arts, Jerome Foundation, Asian/Pacific/American Institute at New York University, and the US Fulbright Scholar Program. Recent lectures have taken place at Princeton, Bard Graduate Center, MIT, Stanford, and Wereldmuseum.
